World Mental Health Day -
October 10th 2021, 06:31 PM
Did you know that today is World Mental Health day?
Every year on the 10th October, the World Health Organistion recognises World Mental Health day to highlight and raise awareness for mental health across the world.
This year has been another tough year for many, particularly with the effects of Covid-19. It has affected businesses, homes, and individuals in all sorts of situations.
Due to the pandemic, a lot of people have been left without medical care, or have had to have their medical care pushed to the back of the line whilst front-line healthcare professionals deal with the influx of patients suffering life-threatening symptoms of the virus. This in turn has left a lot of people vulnerable, and has had a drastic effect on their mental health.
While the virus hasn't been the only effect of mental health, it has certainly played a huge factor over the course of these two years.
This year's theme for WMD is free healthcare. While the UK has access to free healthcare, other countries are not so lucky. In fact, some countries don't have access to any healthcare at all. I'm grateful to the fact I have access to free healthcare. Due to my job, I meet with a number of healthcare professionals who use the gym as a way of relaxing and helping to relieve stress from their busy week dealing with all kinds of patients. While they're busy helping others, I'm busy helping them have someone they can go to and improve both their physical, and mental wellbeing.
While this year the pandemic affected me during the first 5 months of the year, I'm thankful that so far, I have been in a better position and it hasn't taken too much of a toll on me. Others however, have not been so lucky.
Have you been affected by Covid-19 in some way this year? Do you have access to free healthcare? If no, does it cost you much? What are your views on your local healthcare at the moment?

I missed this!
I actually got a job due to Covid, so it's positive in a way? Honestly, I've also been healthier.
I only have access to free healthcare because I am on state insurance for those with low income. If I lost that, I don't know what I would do because of how expensive it is.
Do you ever get a little bit tired of life
Like you're not really happy but you don't wanna die
Like you're hanging by a thread but you gotta survive
'Cause you gotta survive

I knew it was World Mental Health Day and I luckily have access to free health care. I also have been impacted by Covid-19 mentally but now I'm feeling a lot better.

I lost my job due to COVID and it's been difficult. I'm beginning to have a new appreciation for employment and because I've been out of work for so long, I'm beginning to lose empathy for those who complain about their jobs.
"Hey, you don't want you job? I'll be happy to take it!"
My mental health has been consistent for the most part. Spending too much time alone, getting lost in thoughts, one never ending tangent after another... I'm incredibly frustrated and bored.
I have the opposite of a mental health crisis: "I don't want to sit here or die; I want to fucking live, see the world!"
Obviously not during a pandemic.

This is exactly why I try not to complain about my job too much. A lot of people around the world have been put out of work. I'm grateful I still have mine, and am able to continue making money. I don't know what I'd do if I ended up losing my job. As much as it's hard and frustrating. As much as some staff really make me think about moving to another job... I think about how grateful I am to have one to begin with. I try and stick through it because apart from one staff member who just makes things miserable, it's a pretty good job.
