Opening a bank account with a goal... -
January 30th 2012, 10:44 PM
Well over Christmas two things happened:
My sister and I talked about a lot of things, including how she wants to go to Europe but student debt has crippled her financially.
My sister recieved $20,000 from a relative and offered me half. I refused.
However in light of her genorisity I've decided to open a bank account and in two or three years go to Europe with her.
Also some money for education.
I already have $300 and I could make over $1000 over summer so I have a good start.

Hey there,
I think it's a good plan to open a bank account with a purpose. Right now, I'm going to assume you live at home with your parents. That said, I don't know if you pay bills or not. But the best and easiest time to save money is when you don't have to spend it on bills and things you need. So take advantage of that. Is this a savings account, or a checking account? I would strongly advise making it into a savings account. Reason being, you can't use your debit card or checks for your savings account, making it harder to spend the money you're working hard to save. Honestly, I think this is a great goal. And I wish I would have started saving when I first got a job at 15, but I just blew every penny I ever had. If you need any help or have any questions with this goal, let me know. I'm more than willing to help out where I can :]

Yeah as of right now I'm at home so ideally 100% of my income can go to this.
I am going with a tax free savings. I was looking at Scotia Bank and it's basically set up to go.
