Re: How are you beating Self Harm?
I took a blade into the shower and shook as I took off the cardboard covering. I watched the droplets of water run down it and into my hand. I put the blade down. I bursted into tears instead.

I'm only 13 days away from my last time before I slipped up. I made it two months last time. Only got 2 more weeks to go. Then I'll be back at two months. Oh and I'm totally wanting to get further than this. It motivates me. ^.^

Re: How are you beating Self Harm?
I SH when I'm feeling extremely frusturated, anxious or just F-it-all. I last did SH eight months ago.
When I feel like SH and near a computer, I open up a word document and start a fanfic. In the fanfic, whatever fandom and character I choose, I have them angst. It's a good way to release myself, having the character do it rather than myself. I know that sounds a bit bad, but it helps! When I'm home but not near the computer, I go to the poster I made a few months ago in art. There's a whole bunch of stuff on it and they're things that make me smile. So I look at that, or pick a certain written phrase, quote or picture and just look at it. Just look and ponder. That helps get me get distracted and my mood up. Also, if I'm home, I randomly dance either to music or to nothing. It's really helpful because it burns off some of my energy and a bit of my frustration or anxiety. Overall, being more self-centered has helped me significantly with SH. I've been thinking about myself and putting myself and my needs first since September. Plus, I've been a bit impulsive and not in a bad way. Like at the end of August last year (when I'd only just SH a week or so earlier) I was offered a position at this retail store when I hadn't even applied. I automatically said yes without looking at what I'd be doing. Normally, people wouldn't do that or would regret it all this time later but not me. I actually just put in another day in my work week (going from T/Th to T/W/Th) and hopefully this'll keep me occupied more. That brings me to distraction, it's good I am nearly constantly distracted now. Although, I'm back in my fantasy world which kind of sucks. But better be in the fantasy world than inflict injuries on yourself, right?? :D |

Re: How are you beating Self Harm?
Whenever I think about cutting, I make a list in my mind of the good things about me, and if that doesn't work, I start listing people that care about me. That helps a lot and so far I haven't cut in 4 days. It's a little accomplishment, but still one in my mind :)

Re: How are you beating Self Harm?
I have a lot of physical health conditions that require me to go to hospitals a lot.. If any of my doctors saw them they would discontinue some of the treatments they've done for me, because i wouldn't seem mentally stable..
That's what got me to stop in the first place.. needing to seem mentally stable. So that's motivation enough.. Even at times when I'm not, I've learned to hide it pretty well. That, and the fact that I have 3 little brothers who found out I harmed myself.. I really want to be a good role model for them, and a good big sister.. I want them to feel like they can come to me about anything,.. So I didn't hide it from them.. They know it's something I dealt with.. But it's also something they know I'm 2 years clean from, and I don't want to let them down.. you know? Whenever I get triggered and feel like harming myself again, I remember that and manage to distract myself.. The internet is rather helpful when it comes to distracting. :P Haha |
Re: How are you beating Self Harm?
Right now it's because I'm working on stuff for my grandmother for mother's day. I also feel like I'm about to pass out so I guess I'm safe unconscious. I don't know how much longer I can go, though. I just figured I'd be honest.
