How are you beating Self Harm? -
March 30th 2012, 10:31 AM
You know, the battle with self harm isn't always about how long you've gone without it for. Sometimes it's about the little victories. I thought it would be nice to have a thread where we can share our little accomplishments, like ignoring an urge, successfully using a distraction, recognising and dealing with a trigger, or any other things that have helped.
I'll start.
Today I realised I was getting triggered, so I removed myself from the situation and went for a walk instead.

I made a challenge with my friend to not self harm for as long as possible and beat some records. I'm 22 days SH free currently, going for a month.
Do you ever get a little bit tired of life
Like you're not really happy but you don't wanna die
Like you're hanging by a thread but you gotta survive
'Cause you gotta survive

I love the idea, Chess. <3
I ate chocolate to help myself feel better, and surprisingly, it worked.

A really awesome person just gave me another idea.. It's kind of related to the butterfly project. He had me draw a caterpillar, then it going into its cocoon, then it starting to come out of its cocoon, then the most beautiful butterfly I possibly could. It helped.

I was going to cut. I really was. And then I took a deep breath, put the blade down, and walked out of the bathroom. And now I'm watching some Doctor Who.
DAY AFTER DAY, GIVE ME CLOUDS AND RAIN AND GRAY. ♥

I took a shower instead of self harming.

This is a great idea!
I was just about to cut, I had a blade next to me, but i put it away, and now im watching Harry Potter and trying to distract myself.
From day one I talked about getting out
But not forgetting about
How all my worst fears are letting out
He said, "Why put a new address on the same old loneliness?"
When breathing just passes the time
Until we all just get old and die

Today I was literally about to self harm but I went out and finished a letter instead once I saw my sister.

I rearranged my books, CD's and DVD's into genre and then alphabetical order. Then I made myself some chicken noodle soup because it always makes me feel better and now I'm chilling out listening to music until I go to see my mum in about hald an hour. Distraction seems to be working today

I went to therapy today and seeing how proud she was of me making it almost a month really helped.

Last night I watched Greenwing and texted my boyfriend and in the morning I realised that I had gone with self harm on a night where I had thought it would be impossible.
Do you wanna come with me? 'Cause if you do, then I should warn you - you're gonna see all sorts of things. Ghosts from the past. Aliens from the future. The day the Earth died in a ball of flame. It won't be quiet, it won't be safe, and it won't be calm. But I'll tell you what it will be: The trip of a lifetime!

I promised a good friend i wouldn't. I just think about how disappointed she would be. It helps.
