Cutting For No Reason?! -
September 17th 2011, 06:22 PM
So I recently found out about a bunch of other people who cut, and it would make me sad if most of them weren't doing it for no reason. Instead, it just pisses me off. Like this one girl who's suspended and in my grade, she does it just to do it. Maybe she thinks it makes her more emo, but if she wasn't emo before that isn't going to change because you're cutting yourself. I can't believe people can be like that. It's like they would never understand what it is like to do this and have to try to keep it a secret because they don't want it to be secret. They don't care that anyone knows and they don't care about hiding or think about triggering someone by talking about what they use. It's basically a joke to them, and that's wrong. I don't see anything cool or whatever about doing what I do, and I certainly wouldn't go around doing it just to say I did it. It also makes me wonder how that makes people like me look when you have all these people cutting for no reason. They aren't going to see the difference between them and me, they're just going to think we're both crazy freaks.

Even if if seems to you like they're doing it for no reason, it might just be that they do it for reasons that you don't understand (in this case it seems like it's for attention) we can't know for sure of course. I don't think people do things for no reason. It can make it harder for you to be understood though, because as you said people may not see the difference, but they may need as much help as you do for different reasons. If you've been thinking about reaching out it's still worth it and if you aren't ready yet it's something to think about.

I've had a friend like this before, Shanielle. And I know how frustrating it is. Because she claimed to have been doing this for years, yet I did PE with her for 2 years, we sat and had conversations while getting changed, and she loved to flaunt her body, there wasn't a mark on her.
Sometimes people like to fake things for attention, but, like Kate said, it could be that she does have some serious problems in her life that you don't know about. All I can suggest to you is that you talk to her and ask her why she's doing this and explain to her the dangers of going too deep, infections, losing control, etc.
