Post cutting - June 27th 2011, 04:01 PM

ok so i wrote this poem about cutting. its kinda hard to understand unless you know me, but you might relate. idk.

Waiting scared in the dark
Not alone but in a fright
Waiting for the cardinal
The cardinal to take flight

The flash of red will fly by fast
Lighting up the sad sky
That is when the cardinal goes
Whizzing quickly by

Once the cardinal is flying
I know exactly what to look for
I know what to do and how to do it
When the cardinal comes once more

But now I’m alone in the dark again
When the cardinal barely causes a spark
I need more than one bird now
To get rid of the painful dark

And now the cardinal is gone
Flying away on its broken wings
Leaving me all alone here
Broken. Shattered. Still fighting.

And on I fight for my life
Fighting right through the night
And waiting for morning to come
When I can see what the cardinal left

But now I see what this is
I know that the cardinal wasn’t bad
I know it didn’t light up the sky
And I know that it was just as sad

Because I am the cardinal
And I am flying through the night
Cut, scream, and hurt I will
I am a cardinal in flight

And now that I know the cardinal
I know she wasn’t smart
I know she was only hurting
Flying like a dart

And now my wings are broken
I can barely fly
So no longer
Will the cardinal fly by

the cardinal represents basically the whole idea of cutting and how it fixes everything until everything gets more and more messed up and everything stops working...

This is really good! And I understood the metaphor which is good, because that means people can relate more. I really liked this, I could picture it all! Keep writing, you're good, and poetry is a great healthy way of coping!

I'm burning out like a bright light, I wasn't ready for this. You're adorable as hell, but I'm glancing at your wrist.

This made total sense to me, and was actually really really wonderful and impressive. You're good at writing, keep it up! It can also be a really useful distraction when you get urges to sh.

Re: cutting - June 29th 2011, 12:36 AM

thanks. i wasn't really sure anyone would get it... anyways. i wrote this when i really felt like burning myself (instead of my usual cutting) and thats when i kinda realized i'll never be able to get enough of SH. its a really good distraction though, and it keeps your hands busy.
