You don't; the whole point of getting a cut is that it hurts because you've damaged a part of your body. There's no way to keep it from stinging.

I understand the point above ^
Self harming for some isnt just about the inital cut.
It the taking care of yourself afterwards.
And depending on how deep you have cut will depend on how long it will hurt afterwards for.

However, sometimes you wanna hurt there and then.
And maybe afterwards you might feel guilty for cutting, so you want it gone , you dont want the reminder of cutting.
Like the others said, maybe ice and certain creams might help.
I find that savalon cream helps to 'dry' the cuts up and scab over more quickly.

For me personally it varies, I hate when the cuts hurt when i dont want them to, like trying to sleep when i've cut my legs open hours before.
But if i'm gonna take a bath, i take a deep breath and plunge all the cuts into the hot water, so they all sting like hell. >.<
I suppose it varies person to person.

Yeah, I like my cuts to hurt afterward. For as long as they can hurt. It's not as much of a release because it's out of my control, but yeah I like my cuts to hurt.. otherwise I probably wouldn't cut. I like the initial pain, but I like the pain afterward too. If it's a really bad day I purposely make the cut really deep because I know it'll hurt for a long time afterward.
But it is important to keep the cuts clean, to me, I don't want infection. Neosporin works pretty well for me.
