Is hurting yourself without harm bad? - May 9th 2015, 06:13 PM

s hurting yourself without real harm still bad? And if so, why? Like scratching without breaking skin.

And what if you just do it when your bored or because it fascinates you to harm yourself. Than it isn’t a coping skill right? Am I insane for using it that way sometimes?

Of course you aren't insane for thinking that I myself think that any type of harm (even if it doesn't break the skin) is unhealthy. That's just me though ^-^

I think it is still self-harm and by some definitions it is self-harm. I do that all the time just to feel pain for a couple of minutes to get my mind off of things and yes it is considered self-harm.

I still think that's self-harm. The severity of the harm doesn't matter; what matters is that you're intentionally doing unhealthy things to yourself.

Yeah I get that but WHY is it so bad? It doesn't do harm really.

It's bad because it's a negative coping skill. And wether you think it is or isn't it is causing harm because it hurts. Just because there is no mark doesn't mean there's no harm.
