Unhappy Self Harm Free 1 Week! - July 22nd 2013, 10:44 AM

This has been a very difficult 7 days. But I've done it! I've been so tempted to cut lately.. My blades have been way to dull to cut deep like I used to... My deeper scars on my legs are fading ... It's so weird... I dread them because it's nice to wear shorts sometimes.. But I cant.. But all I wanna do is get my razor blade and cut until I bleed. .. But at the same time I wanna be able to wear shorts, so people will stop thinking im weird >_< Idk what to do... I hate people seeing my cuts.. Bleh

Hey there,

Congratulations on one week self harm free. I think that is a great achievement and you should be proud of yourself. If you feel the urges getting stronger try looking at the Alternatives to Self Harm. I think the alternatives are an amazing tool when you are trying to stay self harm free.

It can be really hard to feel as though people are judging you for wearing a certain outfit or something but if you would feel comfortable I think you should wear shorts. Yes, it will be hard at first but the more you do it the easier it will become. I used to wear long sleeves all year round and 2-3 years ago I started wearing arm warmers. This was really hard to do because there were some scars that were not covered and I knew I would get some people who would ask about the scars or the arm warmers. However, I have grown more comfortable with the arm warmers and it doesn't bother me as much when people ask about the arm warmers. You can get to that place as well. Of course, it is a personal decision and you have to be comfortable with it but in the end what other people think really doesn't matter.

I hope this helped and wishing you the best of luck.

Congratulations! That's awesome!! I'm so proud of you. Stopping self harm is hard but it's so worth it. You're worth it so don't give up! And I know what you mean, I HATE when people ask about my self harm. Especially because it's obviously self-inflicted. But I think people have a hard time excepting that a person would do that kind of thing to themselves - they don't really understand it - so they ask because they aren't really able to connect the dots.

Out of the ashes I'm burning like a fire. You can save your apologies, you're nothing but a liar. I've got shame, I've got scars that I will never show. I'm a survivor in more ways than you know. 'Cause all the pain and the truth, I wear like a battle wound. So ashamed, so confused, I was broken and bruised. Now I'm a warrior.

Congratulations on a week of being harm-free! That's really a nice step forward.
You should want to do it for yourself, not because people will think you are weird cutting on your legs.
Set some more goals, go another week, and then another. wear shorts.
When you are able, try to throw away your blades, or hide them away where you aren't gonna see them right away, or a drawer you access daily.

Good luck, and keep your head up!
