Seaweed for dogs?
My dog has his annual vet appointment coming up in a few days for all his vaccines and medication refills and whatnot.
My dog has a medical condition where he can't eat meat due to an allergy where his body is unable to procress it. He also has issues with his pancreas and intestines so he is on a vegan diet and does B12 injections. I have been having a difficult time administering his medication for his B12 and he doesnt like. I already muzzle him and sometimes need to give him some Trazodone to take the edge off. He still does not like it and I am not getting the full dose into him. He needs his medication or he throws up and loses weight. I was looking at other ways he could get B12 and I want to talk to my veterinarian about it. I want to ask here, has anyone given there dog seaweed before? Is it any good? What was your experience with it and your dogs? Thank you. :) |
Re: Seaweed for dogs?
That's a tricky problem!
I don't have a dog so I can't give you any personal advice but it does seem like dogs can eat a small amount of (preferably shop bought) seaweed, which is helpful for vitaming B12. Definitely worth talking to your vet about this though! Hope others can provide more of a personal insight too! |
Re: Seaweed for dogs?
Hi there! :)
I don't know if seaweed is ok for dogs. The only advice I can give you is to do an internet search or talk to your vet as you already planned. Sorry I wasn't much of a help! |
Re: Seaweed for dogs?
I cannot speak for dogs or animals with health conditions. My cat loved dry seaweed sheets but it wasn't used as a substitute to medicine. He enjoyed the olive oil as it helped him clean his fur and keep it shiny. It was more of a snack or treat more than anything else. I wonder if you may need to be careful because of the sodium fresh seaweed can have. Maybe ask the vet about the sodium.
Is there such a thing as special made seaweed from the pet store? edit: I did a quick internet search and seaweed apparently does have substantial amounts of b12 and it says 1 nori sheet has 80% daily value for human I was picturing 1 small sheet room the snack packages and that's so hard to believe because it tastes so papery but I guess Google says :p |
