Half emotionless? bipolar depression? - February 28th 2015, 01:09 AM

I have noticed that... I seem to not feel anything to some substances, I don't miss family when gone or people that has died, I don't feel anything when death happens in movies or real life. But.. I had a guy and he was really close but.. something happened and I ..miss him? to the point of crying. but I lack emotion in some areas and towards most people. I don't really understand. them 2 people asked me if I had bipolar depression, a son of a physiologist and a therapist I met out of random.

Hey there,

Firstly, I'd like to apologize for the late response to your thread.

We all have different emotional responses to different situations. We give different amounts of importance to different people and situations and that can determine how we feel about a certain event. As long as your emotional responses aren't affecting your ability to function normally and aren't distressing you a lot, you shouldn't worry about it. Whatever you feel is okay.

If you feel that this is affecting your life a lot and is becoming a cause of concern, you can visit a mental health professional and get their help with it. But please don't try to self diagnose, it can have very harmful effects.

You're always welcome to PM me if you'd like to chat.

Take care.

Does not sound bipolar at all to me. Sounds more like different emotions in different circumstances. You are "supposed" to feel something when family dies, but if you don't see that person often- you may not actually feel anything-unless it was like a parent or a sibling. Some people are just more emotional than others- its not a bad thing.

Sometimes I'll be at a church group and someone starts crying because of something spiritual and ill be like "why the hell is that so emotional? ".

If you are bipolar , you will have different mood episodes that are abnormal. You can get into a hypomanic episode if your bipolar 2 , or full blown mania if you are bipolar I. You have to have had abnormal episodes like this if you are bipolar , and they can't be due to events that are either exciting or angering.
