Tips Of The Month

Each month we share small bits of practical advice that you can implement to improve your life or that of others.

==========

How to make festive ghosts

Festive crafts, like Halloween enthusiasts themselves, come in all forms. Here is an inexpensive yet cute craft to try during the spooky season.

  • Gather what you need. For this craft, you'll need small white trash bags, paper towels or newspaper, twist ties (rubber bands work, too) and permanent markers. Glow sticks are fun to add, but not required.
  • Start making the ghost's shape. Use your paper towels or newspaper, and crumple it up. Next, put it into the trash bag and tie it off with a twist tie. You can also wrap a rubber band around if you'd like to.
  • Use your permanent markers to create the rest of the ghost's face. You can get creative with what type of attitude it'll have. Consider attaching glow sticks within the ghost so it glows on Halloween.
  • You're all done! Make one for fun, or make several to hang up in your house or in a tree in your front yard. Consider making the ghosts with different sized heads or different colored faces.
  • Keep getting creative! Look around online to find ways to make bats, spiders, and pumpkins out of trash bags as well.

Pumpkin spice snowballs

Pumpkin spice snowballs are a delicious and easy to make treat that you can share with friends and family this fall season. Try it for yourself using the recipe below.
  • Gather the ingredients. You will need 1 cup unsalted butter, 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar divided,1 teaspoon vanilla extract, 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 2 teaspoons cinnamon divided, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon ginger, 1/4 teaspoon allspice, 3/4 cup chopped nuts.
  • Preheat oven and mix ingredients. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Mix the butter, 1/2 a cup powdered sugar and vanilla with an electric mixer until they are fluffy. Then add the flour, salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ginger and allspice and mix until it all comes together. Then stir in the nuts.
  • Scoop into balls and bake. Scoop the mixture and roll into balls and place on a cookie sheet baking for 7-8 minutes. When they are done baking let them cool until you can handle them.
  • Place remaining powdered sugar in a bowl. You will have 1 cup of powdered sugar remaining. Place that into a bowl along with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon. Roll each cookie in the sugar mixture until coated.
