Tips Of The Month

Each month we share small bits of practical advice that you can implement to improve your life or that of others.

==========

Healthy snacks that use peanut butter

While peanut butter has beneficial properties, it is sometimes viewed in a poor light. Peanut butter can be part of many healthy snacks, however.
  • Peanut butter in a smoothie. A peanut butter and banana smoothie is a classic, but there are other smoothies made using peanut butter as well. Try other fruits and different combinations, or see what you can find online.
  • Try peanut butter on a plain rice cake. A rice cake's ability to make you feel fuller is something that benefits many people. Rice cakes can be a bit plain, especially if you choose one that is not flavored. Try putting a little bit of peanut butter (and bananas if you wish) on a rice cake for breakfast or a snack.
  • Use peanut butter as a dip! Try using it as a dip for celery, or pretzels, or anything else that you want to pair it with. Using it as a dip can be a good way to eat celery if you do not enjoy it plain.
  • Experiment with other foods. Peanut butter can be used as a dressing or a sauce for salads and sandwiches. You can try it in homemade granola bars, or even in some soup! A lot of these dressings and sauces are homemade, so see what you have in your kitchen and give it a shot.

Dealing with difficult coworkers

Work can come with a lot of stressors and one of those stressors can be dealing with difficult coworkers. This tip will discuss some ways to deal with difficult coworkers.
  • Stay calm. When dealing with difficult coworkers it can be really easy to lose your patience however getting angry could lead to the situation becoming worse. If necessary you can try and do some breathing exercises to remain calm.
  • Treat them with respect. While dealing with difficult coworkers can be hard it's best to try and continue treating them with respect. If you react by being disrespectful it's likely to make the tension increase and lead to the situation getting worse.
  • Try and ignore them. If you continue trying to work through the issues and the situation does not improve, it's okay to avoid them as much as possible.
  • Ask for a supervisor or someone higher up to help. If you've tried absolutely everything to resolve the issue and the issues persist it is okay to reach out to your superiors and ask them to help deal with the situation.

Ways to feel energised

Our energy levels can ebb throughout the day, which can make it more difficult for us to complete tasks. Here are some natural ways to feel energised without turning to caffeine. Do note that lack of energy can be caused by an underlying medical reason so visit your doctor if this persists.
  • Take a walk outside. Exercise is probably the last thing you want to do when you're feeling tired, but gentle exercise coupled with fresh air can make you feel energised.
  • Drink water. We lose fluid through normal daily activities so it's important to drink enough water. Feeling tired can be a sign of dehydration as without adequate water, the flow of oxygen to the brain is impacted, thus drinking water can make us more alert. You could also splash your face with water to feel more energised.
  • Adjust your environment as appropriate. Feeling too hot can make you drowsy, so open windows to let in some breeze or switch on a fan. If the room is not getting enough daylight, switch on a light, and if it's too quiet, try switching on some upbeat music.
  • Try peppermint. It is said to help increase oxygen to the brain, making you feel more alert. Smell peppermint oil or apply it directly to your skin, but always read the label and apply with caution to avoid any reaction; consult your doctor if you are unsure. You could also drink peppermint tea or chew peppermint gum.
