Hello everyone,
This year's news headlines have focused on many grim topics. As wars continue to unfold internationally, many of us have experienced mass shootings and violence locally. Individuals and organizations alike have spread messages of hatred and fear in order to gain power and influence over others. Looking back on 2015, it may be tempting to say, "the world is a horrible place," "people can't be trusted," or "I'm not safe."
That is why it's more important than ever to have safe havens we can turn to in times of need. TeenHelp has always strived to be one of those safe havens that provides space for self-expression, discussion, and reflection. Whether you joined TeenHelp recently or years ago, have logged in daily or rarely, we hope that this very special community will continue to provide you with support, guidance, or even laughter when it is desperately needed.
In last year's holiday message, we spoke of new beginnings and the ability to make an impact on those around us, whether on TeenHelp or elsewhere. As the new year quickly approaches, you may be bracing yourself for more grim news headlines. You may be wondering "what's the point?" or "how can I make a difference?" when there is so much change that needs to take place. It is easy to become discouraged and pessimistic in times like these.
Many of us would agree that it is not always the big world events which most strongly resonate with us. Rather, it is the small acts of kindness, such as a genuine greeting from a stranger or a random message of encouragement, that brightens our day and fills us with hope once again. For 2016, it is our hope that you will not only benefit from these small acts of kindness, but that you will also find opportunities to be kind to others, whether in small or big ways.
Happy holidays!
