Tips Of The Month
Each month we share small bits of practical advice that you can implement to improve your life or that of others.
==========
How to do well in a job interview
So you've made it through the application process and have successfully landed a job interview, but how do you excel in it? Here are a few quick tips to help you perform well.
- Dress well and use fragrance sparingly, as first impressions do count.
- Make eye contact, maintain good posture, and speak clearly.
- Prepare yourself by anticipating which questions may be asked and rehearsing answers to them, to avoid being stumped during the interview.
- Promote your strengths, but be truthful at all times.
- Research the company and prepare a few relevant questions to ask at the end of the interview.
==========
Long distance relationships
Long distance relationships can be a struggle, but with school commitments and the holiday season approaching, they can be particularly challenging. Here are some tips to help make coping with the distance a little easier.
- Try and communicate every day.
- Express your feelings. Let your partner know when you are upset and why.
- Have 'date nights' by spending time online where you only talk to your partner.
- Surprise your partner with letters and cards, to remind them how you feel about them.
- Trust one another. Without trust, the relationship won't work.
- Plan to visit your partner as often as you can; seeing each other every few months may help to prevent stress on the relationship.
==========
Child safety
If there children under your care, it is important that you ensure they are kept safe and any potential injuries are prevented. The following are some ways you can do this:
- Children should always wear a helmet, knee and elbow pads, and wrist guards when riding a bicycle, skateboarding, ice-skating, or engaging in other dangerous sports.
- If a child is under twelve years of age, they should be placed in the backseat when riding in a car.
- After a baby has reached one year of age and exceeds twenty pounds, you may place them in a front facing child seat. When the child is four years old and over forty pounds, they may just use a booster seat and the standard seat belt.
- Never leave a child unattended. If you do see a child alone, whether it is in a store or in a car, seek help from a suitable person immediately, such as a store manager.
- Childproof the house. Make sure all cupboards are locked and doors are closed.
