I had a dream last night.
In this dream, I had enrolled in some foreign exchange program (or something like it) and I had just met my new host family in England. By the looks of the contents of my suitcase, it seemed as though I was going to be staying there for a decent period of time...at least a couple months.
For some reason, this dream has motivated me, and I now have a new goal.
I want to live in England.
I've never been out of the United States, and so its always been a dream of mine to travel around the world to places such as France, Italy, Australia, Norway...the list goes on and on. However, I want to actually stay in one of these places, long enough so that I see more than just the touristy stuff. I want to actually experience living someplace different, with new faces and a new lifestyle.
Maybe even long enough that my "Mom" will become my "Mum".
Why England? Well, for one I've always wanted to go there, and I'm more familiar with it than other countries. And also because I'm not really keen on learning a new language
This goal might seem a little far fetched, but it's something to work towards. Right now I'm going to school with no set major, I'm unemployed, I really have nothing going for me. I'm just going with the flow, but getting nowhere.
When people ask me where I see myself in 5 years, my thoughts just go blank because I have no future plans in mind. But living in another country in a temporarily permanent home? That just sounds so exciting, it gives me something to work for.
I know it will be expensive, and lonely at times, and probably a lot harder than I anticipate. But all my life I've never had that kind of independence. Even when I went on week long field trips for school, my dad insisted on chaperoning. Someone's always been there to hold my hand, and I'm getting tired of it.
Now, to get a job so I can start saving up enough money to actually accomplish this. It probably won't happen for another couple years, but hey...time keeps passing faster and faster everyday.
The next few years will fly by methinks.
