Actually, it's not even new to me. It's been parked outside my bedroom window for the last 22 years. That's like my entire life plus 5. What is new to me, though, is having the possession of the key. Which makes the rust and ugliness of it not-so-ugly anymore. I don't know why that is.
My dad told me a year ago that I would have a vehicle for my senior year. Well, I'm graduated, and a week away from entering college and still having to say "Mom, do you need the car within the next 30 minutes?" every time I want to go the store to get a carton of cookies n' cream. Not that I mind having to ask...I mean I know a new car is expensive and my parents don't own a money tree, (which they should) but not having a way to get to college could have it's complications.
Yesterday, instead of buying me a new car, my dad suggested I use the GMC.
Let me tell you a little bit about this truck...my brother was it's previous owner. And before that, my dad. My brother isn't exactly a neat freak (that's an understatement...the guy cleans his room annually, and it's a week long project)...so the only place clear of junk was the driver seat. The gas gauge isn't accurate, so I never know when I'm about to run out. And the thing is overall just junky. (Excuse the interruption, but the spell check doesn't agree that "junky" is a word. It suggested "gunky, hunky, and funky." Haha!) Because of this, I avoided using the truck whenever I could.
However, I agreed to use it because I need some form of transportation and I've always loved trucks. Oh, and he said I could "fix it up" however I wanted, so that kinda convinced me
I immediately got ambitious and went to work. I grabbed a trash bag and some Lysol wipes and prepared myself for the adventure I was about to embark on. Throughout the day, I found a number of interesting objects, such as a pair of 3D glasses, $6.41, a fire extinguisher, about 15 Taco Bell receipts, and one half of a pair of Converse. After cleaning it all out and vaccuuming the carpets, wiping down the inside, and washing the outside (which took most of the day) I asked my dad if he would let me repaint it. To my surprise, he said yes! So I started sanding down all the rust and peeling paint, which is all I've been doing for the last day and a half. Fun!
Anyway, basic idea is that I finally have a vehicle to call my own...and I'm stoked. I can't wait til it's all painted and clean
Hope you all are doing well. xx

Haha you remind me of when my brother gave me his car on my 18th birthday. However, it wasn't in bad condition at all, I just needed to clean out the inside and that was it. I loved that car so much. Even to the point where I named it Jim.

It's a nice feeling having something that's yours, huh?
