I had the best time in Edinburgh. It's the first time I've had any amount of time alone with Naomi since February last year and we've both agreed to go away more often, go away for maybe a week, and hopefully go to London at some point.
Obviously this is finance depending.
I'm surprised we did so well actually. I don't really know Edinburgh, I've only really been a handful of times so I'd spent the week or so before worrying about getting lost, which bus to get, where to get off, what if we get on the wrong bus. But after some wrong directions from a policeman (thank you so much for that, it really helped ) we got on a bus that said something like "Fast Track to Edinburgh Zoo" on the side. It only took about 15 minutes or so and the hotel was lovely. For a start, the bed was HUGE. You could have easily fit 3 or 4 people in there. The TV was pretty huge and had the option of paying for a channel with almost non stop "adult" movies. We didn't do that. But having the option was amusing.
The food was freaking amazing and the staff were SO helpful. Although, first night we decide since it's the first night away, let's have a drink. So we head down to get dinner and each order a vodka and coke. £4.55 just for ONE of the vodkas! I knew it'd be expensive but good god! Thankfully we had a 10% discount on the bar, but still! Nearly £10 for two drinks was madness.
We went to the zoo which was brilliant, it was really quiet so they told us not to worry about the slot we booked for the pandas and just to go in any time as often as we wanted. They didn't mention that pandas sleep 16 hours a day so.... yeah I basically got a photo of an unconscious panda with it's paw over it's face.
The big cats, like the leopards and tigers were in shockingly small enclosures. The bears were too. And they were all pacing the whole time we stood there. It was really hard to watch so we didn't spend too much time there.
The penguin parade consisted of one penguin. There's a door at either end of their enclosure so the 'audience' basically forms a line to create a sort of path for the penguins between the two doors so they don't run off. It's not really organised, they just open the door and wait to see if any penguins want to come out, and only one was brave enough. It was still an experience.
Afterwards we went to the pool in the hotel which was great apart from the communal changing area. I will never unsee that naked old lady with sudocreme on her boobs and bits. Just no.
And the sauna at the side of the pool - never again. I knew they were hot, and that didn't bother me, what I didn't know was that it was such dry heat. I always assumed they were steamy. It hurt to breathe, I kept coughing, and it felt like my lips were burning. We left after a few minutes.
The day before we came home we went into the city centre for a while. Met a really lovely shop assistant in Lush and signed a petition that was something to do with the Commonwealth Games and the homophobia in Russia. We ended up in this little Mediterranean cafe for lunch and Naomi decided to wait until after I'd eaten half of a really gross burger to explain to me what 'halal' actually meant. Maybe that's why I still have a dodgy stomach.
I got home yesterday afternoon, but I've done something to my knee. It hurt to walk on but wasn't *too* bad up until then. Apparently walking up the four steps to the front door was the last straw and I hobbled, gasping, with tears running down my face, into my bedroom. It's still being annoying. Almost like a twisted ankle. It hurts but you can walk on it if you have to. I'm praying it sorts itself out for me going back to work on Sunday otherwise I'm just going to make it worse.
I have some really awesome pictures from Edinburgh which those of you who have me on facebook will see soon. Feel free to PM me if you want me there, I'm always happy to make new friends.
Meanwhile I'm still studying and I've started looking at new jobs and general prices of flats to rent in Edinburgh. Naomi was planning to move there for a while and it is a beautiful city I'd be happy to live in. If we find places cheap enough and can both get full time work... you never know.
So pleased with how things are going right now!
