Everything is stressing me the hell out lately.
Put in my holiday requests at work, I needed ten days over June/July and a week in August. Considering I've been doing up to 24 hours in a week despite my 8 hour contract, I didn't think it'd be an issue. But then I find out my holiday for next month was declined because too many people are off. So I talked to my manager and offered a compromise. Instead of going to England on the Friday with my family, I'd stay and work the weekend, even the Monday morning if she needed, and then get the train down on Sunday night or Monday instead. Resounding no. She says she's really sorry but there are too many people off and she needs me to cover the evening shifts because J who usually does them has her holiday that week.
No offence, I could see she was sorry she couldn't give me it, but it's not my responsibility to cover everyone (since that's what I seem to be doing lately) and it's not fair of her to expect me to stay at home while my family go on holiday because she wants me to work beyond my contracted hours. My mum said she'd call in that week for me and say I'm completely bedridden with a really bad stomach bug that has me throwing up constantly, and the doctor's had to give me a course of medication to stop it. Then my dad added that if they question it when I go back, to just start crying and go "I'M PREGNANT!"
...Not sure about that one.

My plan right now is just to up the ante with my job hunting. A bar just opened in my nearest town, I spoke to the manager who said to call in a couple of weeks once they've had the chance to see how busy it'll be and how many staff they'll need.
I'm mostly applying for bars just because I've got 3 years experience there so my chances are good.

But dear god work is driving me crazy just now. I was annoyed enough with them for calling me at 4.15 on Wednesday to ask if I could go in for a 5-9 shift that day. I was with Naomi, I had maybe 3 or 4 days with her overall in the past month or so and last week was the first time I had a few days free, so of course I was spending them with her.
Apart from that it'd take me two hours to get home, another hour to eat and shower and change, and then half an hour to get to work. So it'd be pointless anyway. But really, 45 minutes notice? I was told off just after Christmas when I gave an hour and a half notice that I was sick and couldn't make it in. But it's fine when they do it.
Today was utterly hellish. We were so understaffed for the amount of customers that at one point I was the ONLY person on the shop floor, and I'm not allowed more than about ten feet away from the fitting rooms. It was ridiculous. There was a problem with the radios so I had to rely on the phone to get people up to get other sizes and help customers. Except reception weren't answering the bloody phone. I spent half an hour calling and radioing down repeatedly to no avail. Then it got insanely busy about half an hour before my shift finished. There are 9 normal cubibles, and a disabled cubicle in the ladies' side. But all were full, there was a queue with about 7/8 people waiting to get in, one woman stalked into the rooms to see if they were actually full before demanding "How long is this going to take?!" Thankfully most people realised I had no control over it and didn't blame me. Two ladies wanted different sizes at the same time. Finally got through to reception, they put out a call for someone to come up and help me but no one showed. By the time I managed to get through again both women had given up and went to get what they wanted themselves. By the time another girl came up to take over at the end of my shift there was still a queue of people, rooms were full, there was a huge pile of clothes and hangers on a bench just inside the area, and I was about ready to punch someone.
It's a Saturday at the beginning of June. The weather has been nice. Do you not REALISE that it's going to be hectic with people holiday shopping?! Can you seriously not put a few extra people on to help out with it all? Thank god the new girl was taking away all the reject clothes for me or I would have hit something. Just.. the communication is terrible in that place. I mean, a couple of months ago I got a call on Friday night telling me I didn't need to go in the Saturday because they had too many people scheduled to work. So I sat up late with my parents and chilled out, and planned a lazy Saturday off. Ten past nine on Saturday morning I get a call from work asking where I am because I was meant to start at nine.
No one told anyone that I'd been told not to go in. So they were mad at me for not going in until I explained it.

I'm just sick of it. I feel like if they're not ignoring me they're just walking over me. Example, when you go to try something on you expect a "Hi, how are you?" and a little tag with a number on it depending on how many things you have.
But no, here's what I have to do EVERY TIME someone comes up:
  • Greet them.
  • Take what clothes they're carrying and count them.
  • Give them a tag for how many clothes they have and take it all through.
  • Ask them if they've heard about our click and collect service.
  • Get them to fill out a form for a new card because our system has changed.
  • Tell them about Product of the Week.
  • Close the curtain and let them know I'm there to help.
  • Chat with their relatives and be friendly.
  • Tell relatives about Click and Collect.
  • Sign relatives over 16 up for a new card too.
  • Tell relatives about Product of the Week.
  • Get any extra sizes or styles for the person if they ask.
  • Take the clothes they don't want and hang them up properly.
  • Suggest accessories to go with their purchases, even if they don't buy anything.
  • Ask if there's anything else I can do or get them.
  • Offer them a basket.
  • Make sure there's no paper/plastic/debris in the vacated room.

Is that not a BIT far for a bloody fitting room?

I know I rant about work a lot but it's stressing me the hell out. If I miss just ONE of those things and the customer happens to be a mystery shopper, we lose points and I get in trouble.
It's ridiculous.
Every. Fucking. Customer.

Sooner I get a new job the better.
No wonder I'm having nightmares about the place.
