Last week I had a job interview for Matalan (clothes/homeware shop for those of you who are deprived ) and I got the job! It's going to be 8+ hours a week until Christmas, and then they'll decide if they want to keep me on or not. Funny since, when the trainer person was showing the group of us around the store and pointing things out, I was looking at the homeware we walked past and thinking how reasonably priced it is and that I'd totally shop in there when I move out.

Now, less than a week later, it's a definite possibility. I've talked with Naomi before about moving out and how we'd like to live together in the future. But last night after we had a really fun time cooking, and a really lovely dinner with fizzy wine and chocolate mints after, I noticed she was looking on her phone at flats to rent. We talked about it and decided we want to try for this.
She lives in the middle of nowhere, so she can't get a job since travel is awkward. But she can't really afford to move out and pay rent until she gets a job. Nightmare, right?
We've decided that if I can be kept on by Matalan after Christmas (hopefully full time, or at least 16 hours a week) then the job centre will be able to help her out a bit in terms of rent and we can find a flat together. We found this really perfect one that's only £91 per week, is in the middle of town and next to a supermarket, and comes fully furnished as well as being really nice. As much as I'm trying not to get my hopes up since we probably can't do this till after New Year, I'm really excited. This place is perfect, there's no other word for it. I messaged the people renting it out to ask about deposits and advance payments and such to find out how much it'll be, but hopefully we can manage.
Realistically, Naomi and I have only been together for 5 months (as of yesterday) but we've also been close friends for two years and had kinda massive crushes on each other for a long time. Turns out we both just tried to ignore it since we were happy with other people at the time.
Speaking of being alike, it turns out we were both trying to get a single rose yesterday but couldn't because supermarkets only sell them in bunches. While we haven't actually spent a huge amount of time in each other's company (we see each other once a week roughly for a night or two, and the longest has been 3 consecutive nights) we seem to just click so I've got no worries about moving in with her. That and even if, god forbid, things didn't work out between us, we have a strong enough friendship to still be able to stay close and work things out as friends.
I know I'm rambling. My mind is racing, I'd planned to move out by 21, but it's never been this real before. Actually looking at places and planning how it'd be possible. I can't imagine it being easy, especially at first. But, let me work this out, if I'm getting 16 hours a week at minimum wage (£4.98 an hour) then that's 5*16 (rounding up, 2p isn't a huge difference) then that's £80 per week. If we're both getting that then it's £160, minus the £91 rent, that's £69 spare a week for food, travel, and any essentials. Obviously, that's if we get the place we like. But we wouldn't really want to pay any more than £100 a week so we're still going to have at least £60 a week spare.

Again, rambling. But whatever, it's my blog. Not like anyone really reads it anyway.
I'm excited.
Serious possibility.
Independence.
I can't wait.

All I need to do is speak to my parents. At least Naomi's dad has been asking when we're getting married for the past 3 months. He's convinced we're meant to be and says I'm his best friend, he's a great guy and would be totally fine with it.
My parents? Catholics protective over their little girl? I'm not so sure.
Might speak to my Godmother first, she's always got good advice about how to approach my parents.

I'm excited!
I just wish someone was online so I could freak out and be excited with them.

    Hahah. This made me smile.

I'm excited for you to move out. Can I give some friendly advice? I've been exactly where you are. And I mean the EXACT same position.

Okay. So. Moving out on your own can be a very difficult process if not done right. Meaning, these things take planning. Often times landlords want a deposit, first and last months rent. Craig and I just moved into a 600 dollar house (Per month, mind you) When we moved in, it was only first months rent and deposit. Which was 750. Adding it all up 1350. Eugh. But after that, it was 600 a month. 300 for my half. It's consistent.

What about electricity and water? Make sure you figure those in if they aren't included. When planning out money and bills and such always give yourself some moving room. Meaning, always make sure you have at least 100 dollars extra JUST IN CASE. Anything could happen. Getting a furnished house when you first move out is a very good thing. Because when you first move out, you're lucky to even have a couch. My suggestion is slowly save up to buy your own furniture. In two years, I've bought a couch, arm chair, ottomon, tv stand, flat screen TV, kitchen table, recliner, and a spare matress. You slowly want to build upon what you have.

Anyways, that's my bit of advice. OH and as far as work goes, make sure your hours are consistent every week. It will help tons.

It sounds like you're really happy right now. I'm happy for ya. PM me if you have anymore moving questions

Aw, it sounds awesome I'm happy for you!

Don't forget about bills though! You've only factored in the cost of rent up there but you'll need electricity, gas (maybe), internet and phone bills which could end up being £100 a month altogether if you're lucky.

My advice is that if you get a flat try and get one that has gas central heating. A lot of these furnished flats have electric heaters which can cost so much to run especially in the winter.

I'm going to recommend Scottish Hydro for the supplier since I'm with them and they were really helpful when I had no idea what I was doing.

Also, find out if you would get a council tax discount or exemption. Water is included in the council tax so that's one thing you don't have to worry about.
