...My mind is a flurry of confusion.
Jon and I have been doing our very best to plan this out together; it's not exactly easy to plan a wedding together when he's in a different time zone. But, we're figuring things out. Slowly but surely, we're trying to make this work.
Just 2 days ago, he told me that his superiors had told him that Graduation Day would be in 122 days. Perfect, we know the day for graduation! He looked at his calendar and calculated the number of days in the months, and we determined he would be graduating on May 18th or 19th. I knew we'd need some time to have things all put together, so I told mom and dad that with him coming home immediately after Graduation and having 7 days to do what he needs to do, we were planning to hold the ceremony somewhere between May 20th to the 30th at the very latest. We were having so much trouble doing certain things because we didn't have a set date yet, so I thought they'd be happy. Nope.
They still insist that it's too uncertain and they can't know anything for sure or do anything yet. BULLSHIT. There is PLENTY we can still do now, or could've already done for that matter, even if we didn't have a day. We could take my measurements and place the order for my dress. Then we could look at some nice, simple veils (I want a veil but my dress does not have one), and find one that looks nice with my dress. We can do more work on the invitation list, and try to determine just how many people to expect. Jon could find his tux. We could order those little Totoro cake toppers we found ages ago and start thinking about just what we want for the cake; what flavor, the icing, etc. We could look at the décor I've found, think about ordering it before it starts getting into party season and start thinking about how we're going to decorate the place. There is PLENTY we can do right now, but will anyone here lift a finger to help me? NO. Jon is more than willing to help me with anything I need, but I can't let him pay for all this. He's already trying to save money for our Wedding Bands, and they're going to be really expensive already. Nobody in our family knows what we're planning for the bands, it's just between us and a few friends.
Neither of our families understand the "Geek" thing. I'm honestly worried, because we intend to "Geek out" the Wedding a little. My Neighbor Totoro already has a reserved invitation (he's engraved on our Mr. and Mrs. champagne toasting flutes), Tolkien's imagination has also made it's way in (we're hoping to decorate the altar with a very Rivendell-ish feel, especially since we plan to hold the ceremony in a field surrounded by hundreds of trees), I really want some Paopu fruits to be hanging around here and there, whoever catches the garter will get a surprise when they see they're holding a very lacey Jack Skellington, I'm still designing the invitations, but I'm hoping they'll feature something related to either Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings. You get the picture.
This is just what happens when Geeks get married.
