Okay. I've been taking care of this that and the other for the wedding. Jon's working hard, and in December he'll finally be coming home for his holiday leave!

I'm usually the one to bring up the wedding in conversation, but a few days ago Jon asked me a question about my engagement ring. (Just to clear this up, I don't actually have my ring yet; we've had to put some things off because he just didn't have the money for a proper ring and proposal before he had to leave, so he'll be proposing in December when he comes home.) He asked me if I wanted him to pick it out himself, or if I wanted to do the whole "pick it out together" thing that so many couples are doing now.

...Tough question for me to answer, honestly. See, my views are this. He's the one who wants to marry me, he's the one who's going to be proposing to me, so it should be his job to find the ring that he feels is right. However, I also feel that a lot of engagement rings today have become so gaudy and tacky looking. People try to impress others with giant diamonds, or diamonds covering the entire band, or fancy designs that just look odd. I enjoy the feel of simplicity when it comes to something like an engagement ring. Simple, yet dainty, refined. So, I compromised the choices. I told him we'd go in together once to look, and to make sure of my ring size. He'd see what rings catch my eye and what rings I just find ugly. Then he can go in later on his own and pick one himself based on that. That way I don't know what I'm getting, I'm not picking it out myself. But at least I know that he knows what I like.

That leaves me with one final mystery. I know he's going to propose during his leave time in December, but his leave is 2 weeks long. When will he finally do it? Christmas day? Maybe Christmas Eve? Would he make me wait it out until New Year's? I can't stand the mystery. :/

That's really exciting! I have to agree that most engagement rings nowadays look really tacky. I feel that I don't need a big ring with a lot of bling to show people that I'm in love. Just a simple band with a little diamond, or even just a simple band, would work for me!

Congratulations, though. Make sure he gets someone to capture the moment on video and take LOTS of pictures when it happens!!
